Long before the Spaniards came, the Filipinos had their own set of culture, traditions, and beliefs. However, the traces of their history were limited because the primary medium that they used was through word of mouth and writing on the leaves which were all burned down when the Spanish came, because they believed that these are works of the devils. Because Spain wanted to take over the Philippines, their king ordered someone to record the way of life of the Filipinos to have an insight into where to strike and how to sway the Filipinos. As a result, the recorded document was entitled Customs of the Tagalog.
